AACA, a leading film school in South Africa, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Director to join our team. This role is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of productions and classroom activities, ensuring that our students and faculty have the support and resources they need to excel.
Position Details:
- Oversee the technical operations for all productions and classroom activities, including managing equipment, facilities, and technical staff.
- Ensure the maintenance and proper functioning of all technical equipment, including cameras, lighting, sound, editing suites, and computer labs.
- Collaborate with faculty and students to support the technical needs of classes, workshops, and productions.
- Provide technical training and support to students and faculty, including workshops on equipment usage and safety protocols.
- Manage the scheduling and usage of technical resources, including coordinating the availability of equipment and facilities for various projects and classes.
- Assist in the planning and execution of school events, productions, and screenings, ensuring all technical aspects are effectively managed.
- Stay updated on the latest technology and advancements in film production and education, making recommendations for new equipment and upgrades as needed.
Challenges:
- Balancing the diverse technical needs of multiple productions, classes, and events simultaneously.
- Ensuring all equipment is properly maintained, updated, and available when needed.
- Providing effective technical training and support to students with varying levels of experience and expertise.
- Staying current with rapidly evolving technology and industry standards.
- Coordinating with faculty, staff, and students to effectively manage resources and schedules.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Film Production, Technical Theatre, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in technical direction, film production, or a similar role.
- Proficiency with a wide range of film production equipment and software, including cameras, lighting, sound equipment, editing software, and more.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Previous experience in an educational setting, particularly in a film school or similar environment.
- Familiarity with educational technology and online learning platforms.
- Certification or training in equipment maintenance and safety protocols.
- Experience managing a team of technical staff or student assistants.
