Position: Part-time Faculty – Department of Film Studies
Starting Salary: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience
AACA, a leading film school in South Africa, is seeking industry professionals to join our faculty as part-time instructors in specialized roles such as cinematographers, editors, and more. We are looking for passionate individuals who can share their expertise and real-world experience with our students in specific areas of film production.
Because of the nature of our training, students will be fully functional when they leave. The BA in Film & Cinematic Studies is designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary for a career in film production, providing a strong foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of film and cinematic studies.
Position Details:
- Teach specialized courses or workshops in your area of expertise, such as cinematography, editing, sound design, visual effects, etc.
- Share practical insights, techniques, and best practices based on your professional experience in the film industry.
- Provide hands-on instruction and guidance to students to help them develop technical skills and artistic sensibilities.
- Collaborate with full-time faculty to ensure alignment with program goals and objectives.
- Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and other professional development activities as required.

- Tailoring instruction to meet the specific needs and skill levels of students in short-term, intensive learning experiences.
- Balancing teaching commitments with other professional responsibilities.
- Keeping curriculum content relevant and up-to-date with industry standards and practices.
- Nurturing students’ creativity, technical skills, and professional preparedness in a limited timeframe.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field (e.g., Cinematography, Film Editing, Sound Design, etc.).
- Substantial experience and expertise in your specialized area of film production.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts and techniques to students.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred:
- Previous teaching or workshop facilitation experience.
- Active involvement in the film industry with a portfolio of professional work.
- Familiarity with educational technology and online learning platforms.
- Availability to teach on evenings or weekends, based on course scheduling needs.
