AACA, a renowned film school in South Africa, is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join us as the Head of Program for the Department of Acting. This role is pivotal in overseeing the academic staff and program curriculum to ensure the highest standards of education and training for our students.
Because of the nature of our training, students will be fully functional when they leave. The BA in Acting is designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary for a career in film production, providing a strong foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of film and cinematic studies.
Position Details:
- Lead and manage the Department of Acting, including overseeing academic staff, curriculum development, and program administration.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure the department’s goals align with the overall mission and vision of AACA.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement innovative and industry-relevant curriculum.
- Oversee student progress, academic advising, and support services within the department.
- Foster a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration among faculty and students.
- Coordinate with other departments within AACA to ensure cross-disciplinary opportunities and integration.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and advancements in acting education.

- Managing diverse personalities and teaching styles among academic staff.
- Ensuring the curriculum remains relevant and up-to-date with industry standards and technological advancements.

- Navigating accreditation standards and regulatory requirements specific to the Department of Acting.
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Acting, Performing Arts, or a related field.
- Significant experience in academic leadership, program management, or similar roles within a performing arts context.
- Demonstrated expertise in acting theory, techniques, and performance.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team of academic staff to achieve departmental goals.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Preferred:
- Doctorate or terminal degree in a relevant field.
- Previous experience teaching acting at the college or university level.
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
- Knowledge of industry trends and professional networks within the performing arts community.
- Familiarity with learner management systems and educational technology.
