AACA, a leading film school in South Africa, is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Head of Department for our Film Studies program. This pivotal role involves managing academic content and faculty within the department to ensure the highest standards of education and research in film studies.
Because of the nature of our training, students will be fully functional when they leave. The BA in Film & Cinematic Studies is designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary for a career in film production, providing a strong foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of film and cinematic studies.
Position Details:
- Lead and manage the Department of Film Studies, overseeing academic content, curriculum development, and faculty.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure the department’s goals align with the overall mission and vision of AACA.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement innovative and rigorous curriculum that reflects current trends and developments in film studies.
- Oversee faculty recruitment, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development.
- Ensure the effective delivery of courses and programs, including scheduling, student advising, and assessment.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and scholarly inquiry within the department.
- Manage departmental resources, including budgeting and facilities.

Requirements:
- Masters, Doctorate, or terminal degree in Film Studies or a related field.
- Significant experience in academic leadership, program management, or similar roles within higher education.
- Expertise in film theory, history, criticism, and analysis.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team of faculty and staff.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
Preferred:
- Record of scholarly research and publication in the field of film studies.
- Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and program coordination.
- Previous teaching experience at the college or university level.
- Familiarity with educational technology and online learning platforms.
- Active engagement with professional organizations and networks in the film studies community.
